Well, as you've probably guessed by now from the amount it's been plastered about all over the place my name is Gareth Layzell. If you hadn't already realised that, I'd advise getting out of here quick, before I start being sarcastic. I was born during a power cut in 1972 back when there was a three day working week. Some might say this explains a lot. I was also born in Essex, but I don't like to talk about that much. To avoid any permanent disadvantages that might come from remaining in my place of birth, a few years after I was born my family moved to Harrow (yes, and they took me with them, before you get any ideas), where I did most of my growing up before moving to Hull as a student. I lived in Hull for over 7 years, and it shows, although the time I've lived in the Midlands since then seem to have pretty much killed off the accent I picked up. For those of you not too familiar with Hull, here is a link to the Guardian Newspaper's "Pass Notes" Entry on Hull. It is rather amusing, if a little out of date (for example, the stretch of the Humber Estuary mentioned is no longer designated as coastline), although Hull natives reading it may find some of it offensive. You have been warned. I now live in Leamington Spa (I lived in Daventry for about 18 months, but the intense excitement of the town proved to be too much for me) with my girlfriend Alison. You can read about her in a second. We're renting a 3 bedroom house, complete with plenty of space for my comics collection and her saxophone playing. |

Alison is my girlfriend. If you didn't know that already, you haven't really been paying attention, have you. As well as being incredibly attractive (as the picture of her should prove) she's also a wonderful girl, who has given me plenty of love and support over the years we've been together. There, that's all the lovey-dovey stuff out of the way. There will now be a break between paragraphs to allow those that need to to vomit. We met at Hull, in a Students Union Bar, on the last night of the summer term, and then "got it together" on the first night of the next autumn term. Surprising eh? I don't really look like the type of guy who goes round picking up girls in seedy student bars, do I? Of course not. The bar in question had a very good reputation. Alison's in the process of learning HTML at the moment, and is beginning to write her own page, which is why I'm avoiding writing too much stuff about her. You can see her efforts so far here. Check up on it regularly to find out how her HTML knowledge is progressing. First and foremost Alison is a musician. She may not be that active as one at the moment but she is a member of three local wind bands (as a saxophone player, if you hadn't already gathered this from the profile on the left). She's also a linguist in so far as she has half a degree in French (the other half is in Music). No jokes about her being cunning, please. That's rude! |
